I wanted to like 'Mad Men' when it started four years ago. Honest to god, I did. Mostly because I loved Elizabeth Moss on 'The West Wing' as Zoe Bartlett, and I'm one of those people who will follow an actor or actress from show to show. (And now that I read what I just wrote, I realize I come across the teensiest bit crazy/stalker/made a sweater out of my dead cat's hair. C'est la vie.)
But I could never really get into it. (In my defense, I was reading a lot of Bitch Magazine at the time and was taking it all way too seriously. Not that feminism is a laughing matter, but I also had never worked in a traditional office, nor had I spent any time in a newsroom. And if either of those won't teach you to at least laugh at sexists while you condemn their sexism, I don't know what will.)
So, below the cut are the Mad Men Mr. Men, with my clever commentary, and the link to a NYTimes article about the truth in the show's fictional world of advertising.
What The Poke isn't mentioning is that this new series is a prelude to '30 Rock Mr. Men,' so they're really just practicing for when they need to draw Mr. Donaghy. And when they do Silly Miss Lemon, kids can also learn about crossovers!
I'd like to see London Fog photoshop this version of Christina Hendricks.
It takes talent to express Vincent Kartheiser/Pete Campbell's bitchface in a cartoon.
I feel like it wouldn't be unreasonable to give Betty Draper a spin-off with 'Hip to be a square' as the theme song. But I also love that her earrings are as big as her eyeballs. Bigger, even.
I remember a time when Elizabeth Moss was pretty. I blame Fred Armisen.
OK. So I said I don't watch the show, and I don't, so I can't say whether this is accurate, other than to say that I know this character is an old guy, and he's been drawn as an old-school square (because all rectangles are squares but not all squares are rectangles).
And this is a link to an article that talks about what the show gets right and how it's the most "engaged" show in terms of online fan involvement and social media use.
Now I'm going to watch Kylie finish singing on DWTS. Because it's Kylie.
