I wanted to like 'Mad Men' when it started four years ago. Honest to god, I did. Mostly because I loved Elizabeth Moss on 'The West Wing' as Zoe Bartlett, and I'm one of those people who will follow an actor or actress from show to show. (And now that I read what I just wrote, I realize I come across the teensiest bit crazy/stalker/made a sweater out of my dead cat's hair. C'est la vie.)
But I could never really get into it. (In my defense, I was reading a lot of Bitch Magazine at the time and was taking it all way too seriously. Not that feminism is a laughing matter, but I also had never worked in a traditional office, nor had I spent any time in a newsroom. And if either of those won't teach you to at least laugh at sexists while you condemn their sexism, I don't know what will.)
So, below the cut are the Mad Men Mr. Men, with my clever commentary, and the link to a NYTimes article about the truth in the show's fictional world of advertising.
( Bitch face, beady eyes and squares. )
