So, as [livejournal.com profile] jheaton  so helpfully pointed out, after 15 years, Auntie Beebs finally managed to get the rights to the TV movie introducing Paul McGann as the Eigth Doctor from Fox and released it on DVD.

It's available from Amazon for $24, with a lot of extras - some of which are not really what I'd call 'extras'. More like, 'Hmm, we need something to justify this price' bits.

So, [livejournal.com profile] ravenecho  and [livejournal.com profile] lightningmoon09 , if you're truly concerned with the "extras", feel free to fork over the $24. (Bear in mind that it's a 90-minute TV movie, that makes little sense overall and in the Who-verse, and the only element of it that fits into current Who canon is that McGann was 8.)

Otherwise, follow moi. (I'm also sending you to the mini-documentary that ran on BBC before Who came back in 2005 w/ Chris Eccleston. That I believe is not included on the S1 DVD set, though I could be wrong.)
Cookies and awesome things behind the cut. )

And now, just for shits and giggles, my favorite AC/DC video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zYGxb5kFjI
(The 'You Shook Me All Night Long/My Humps' mash-up is a close second, but it fails to be as awesome as this.)

So, more than a month after I was all, "Oh, I'm going to finish at least two books before Christmas," I finally have progress. I forgot how working 9 to 5 is completely draining, even more so than working 4 p.m. to midnight, like I did when I was on the copy desk. :::is nostalgic:::

Anyways, books I've finished, books I'm reading and books I haven't started under the cut.
No mobiles! No Walkmans! None of this! Or any of the others! )
But I have in the last month or so, I've watched all of SPACED, which was awesome for a variety of reasons, including a) Simon Pegg, b) Jessica (Stevenson) Hynes, c) Nick Frost, d) Edgar Wright, e) unapologetic hate of 'Phantom Menace', f) Manny from Black Books, g) Jaffa Cakes, and h) how Dan Harmon clearly had this in mind when he developed Community. I've also watched through S3 of The I.T. Crowd, which is unmitigatedly silly and absurd. I have S2 of the original Life on Mars waiting atop the telly, as well as S5 of the new Who, with Matt Smith, so I can watch that. I'll be a busy, busy girl.

In the interest of continuing education, I invite everyone to visit this post at Topless Robot that gives English translations and pronunciations for the 15 best examples of Chinese curses. I fully plan to learn & memorize a couple of these to pull out at moments of frustration and insanity.

If foreign language cursing is your thing, here is how to swear in five languages (and a bonus):
Shit (American English)
Shite (British English)
Shiza (German)
Mierda (Spanish)
Mierde (French)

Bonus: Póg mo thóin (pawk maa hawn) is gaelic for 'Kiss my ass'. Some may say it's Irish Gaelic in origin, but it's not: It's shared between Scots, Irish & Welsh gaelic.

If cursing isn't your bag, may I suggest seeing if you can find "Brother, Can you Spare a Dream?", which is a documentary about Hollywood & film in the 1930s.

So, I'm nearly done with chapter 48 of this Community fanfic I've been writing. Since June 12, apparently. (I just checked because I couldn't remember.)

I desperately want to finish it this coming weekend, because I want to move onto something else.

But also because I feel that it has become irrelevant because it is so entirely AU at this point it's not even remotely amusing.

It's also partly me being worried about being irrelevant, which comes from two years of having it drummed into me in my journalism classes that timeliness is key.

Part of it is also me being (perhaps wrongly & insecurely) concerned that there's only a small group of people still reading this insane piece of melodramatic shit.

I am, however, determined to finish this damn thing because I need to prove to myself that I can finish this. I practically never start anything this big (if I'm not being paid for it), and I've certainly never finished any of the stalled novels I have in notebooks and floppy disks.

I almost regret falling in love with this show & becoming active in the fandom.
