When a great adventure is offered, you don't refuse it.

So. To clarify because
igotthepants was a wee bit confused:
I sent in my resume the end the last Monday in August. I had an interview by phone the next day, Tuesday. Then I sent in some writing samples the next morning, Wednesday. Then Friday I had an interview. At the end of the interview, I was offered the following deal:
I sent in my resume the end the last Monday in August. I had an interview by phone the next day, Tuesday. Then I sent in some writing samples the next morning, Wednesday. Then Friday I had an interview. At the end of the interview, I was offered the following deal:
- A one week trial starting the following Wednesday (Sept. 8 to Sept 15)
- If the one week trial was OK (i.e. I "survived"), then a one month trial starting immediately
So when I "broke up" with this company yesterday afternoon, I felt no compunction to give two weeks notice, even though I realize that's traditional professional etiquette. (I did, however, use general ettiquette, and refrained from telling my boss how much I hate it there. Mostly because it's not her fault - she's been pretty awesome. It's the management that sucks.) As, at any point, this company could've told me my services were no longer required and not to come back the next day/week, I didn't see any reason to promise I'd stay for another week, considering I've got another job lined up already.
And now, for the new job: I start next Wednesday, probably. (They'll confirm with me Monday.) But I don't mind having a couple days off as I've been exhausted every day for the last two weeks. So, I'm doing as Amelia says, and I'm not refusing anything.
Except maybe to stay on longer at this one place.
