It's been almost a year since my old laptop died and I both a) had to go buy a new one and b) got behind reading stuff at Milady/Milord and have never caught up.

In fact, it's been months since I looked at practically anything posted there. On the one hand, it's freed me up to read awesome books (which, hey, I finally figured out what to do with my Tumblr! I just haven't done it yet.) and to find new ships (Ben & Leslie! Ron & Ann! Tom & Ann! Ben/Leslie/Ann! Dan & Blair! Wendy & the Middle Man! Guy & Marian!). On the other hand, I feel kind of shitty because I know people have been creating some awesome things and I feel really disconnected from my fellow Jeff/Annie shippers.

I have at least six Jeff/Annie stories planned (as in they're in my head, I just need the time to write them), not counting a couple things I have in progress, but I feel kind of like I'm off in my own little writing world, which sucks because I like having my thumb on the shippers' collective pulse when I write.

Finally, it's chilly but absolutely gorgeous outside and I have about another 20 minutes before I can leave work.

I know, I know: World's smallest record player playing the world's saddest song...

Hey, since you probably never saw it, I should tell you about the little tribute to you and TOOGITWFY I sneaked into my holiday fic exchange fic. (For which I did not receive a fic in exchange, incidentally. Very irritating.) My recipient asked for a Britta/Annie fic that featured shopping and changing rooms, and also mentioned she'd like to see Professor Whitman. So I came up with the idea that Britta and Annie were engaged and they were going to the mall to meet with a registry consultant, who turns out to be Professor Whitman. (Who teaches at Greendale to pay the bills while he pursues his dream of being a wedding planner.) Anyway, at the end of the session, this happens:

Once the final item had been selected and added to the registry, Whitman stood and kissed both Annie and Britta on the hand. "Ladies," he said, "I am unable to put into words what a pleasure and a privilege it has been to work with you today. I hope that you will be as happy as my darling Emmaline and I have been."

As I explained to [livejournal.com profile] under_crisis at the time, I didn't go into it planning to give Whitman a wife named Emmaline, but as I wrote, it became evident that he was, in fact, married, Emmaline was the natural choice. I did not, alas, use the name you chose for Professor Whitman--I went with Eustice, which is the name given at greendalecommunitycollege.com, but you can't have everything. Nevertheless, you'll be pleased to know that the Whitmans have a very happy marriage, one that has lasted 25 years.

If you're so inclined and you have the time, the fic is here: Scenes from a Mall
