Handmade Meme & new fic (and books)
Feb. 25th, 2011 06:54 pm
Two things today to discuss:
I have a few friends who've done this on Facebook, but I thought i would try it here: The handmade meme is when an individual offers to make & give/send something handmade to the first people who respond to a post. So...
I will make something and send it to the first five (5) people who respond to this post.
Assuming anyone actually wants to try this. To be clear, I'm a half-decent photographer, I make beaded jewelry and I knit. I also make good mix CDs. (The only complaint I've ever had was that I put the same song on more than one CD I made for the same person, and that stopped as soon as I started keeping better track of what I was choosing for each CD.)
The other thing is that I'm worried about posting a new fic to milady/milord because, as much as I've written shorter fics, I feel like I wrote 'There's Only One Girl In the World For You' and people would be happy if all I ever did was write sequels to that. But I have other ideas. And I suppose I'm freaked out that the Epic is the first thing I've ever written that I had a good response to, and I neither want to be pigeoh holed nor do I want to be a one-hit wonder. Mostly because I hope that at some point, I will be able to write fiction professionally.
Also, I've made some progress on my reading list.

Date: 2011-02-27 01:52 am (UTC)The Physics of the Buffyverse is difficult to get into. I started it back in September...and then I had to return it to the library last month before I'd gotten beyond the first chapter. :::hangs head in shame::: I'd love to be able to say it's because I'm a dummy. But it's actually just very dry. However, I *am * going to check it out again this summer and finish it.
(I will say that 'Seven Seasons of Buffy' is good, although it's uneven. 'What Would Buffy Do?' is excellent and well-thought-out, even if I didn't agree with all of it. And 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Philosophy' was interesting. I don't recall if I read 'Fighting the Forces', and I do want to track down 'Sex & The Slaver.')
Mr. Darcy's Obsession was...interesting. Apparently Abigail Reynolds has written several of these AU-P&P novels. This one was decent: There weren't any crazy sex scenes. However, Impulse & Initiative (also by Reynolds) was at *least* two times as long as it should've been and the sex scenes were both silly and not useful, and don't even get me started on the pacing.
(Granted, I'm spoiled from reading Nautibitz, Ripe Wicked Plum & SaberShadowKat's fics, which I believe are Porn *With* Plot, even when they're PWP.)/ ramble
But, yeah, I think any woman who's ever read or watched P&P is like, 'I wouldn't kick Darcy out of bed even if he had behaved in an ungentleman like fashion.'

NAUTI MAKES THE BEST PWP. I LIVE FOR IT
OMG. Yes. This. I mean, I'll read & reread SaberShadow Kat's stuff - and there used to be an author named RedThunder who wrote this awesome, smutty X-Files/Buffy/La Femme Nikita/Due South crossover - but Nauti's fic is what I aspire to with my J/A stuff.
Also? Awesome Icon is Awesome. :D
