First, a note: As I was typing my subject /\ up there /\, I was struck by the fact that it sounded a lot like the title of a really pretentious article from Vanity Fair or something. However, I can't think of anything else to call this, so it's staying.

Second, I love flannel because:

  • It can be dressed up or dressed down.
  • It's warm without being bulky, & makes an excellent layering piece.
  • It's the quintessential element of the grunge rock uniform, and therefore automatically is more awesome than a) cone bras, b) ironic school girl uniforms, c) low cut tops & Daisy Dukes in cutesy candy colors, and d) wearing bubble wrap, tissue boxes for shoes or any of the other weird shit Gaga tries to make happen.
I mean, is there any other fabric that is inherently tied to a particular time & stage in the development of rock & roll, and consequently influenced thousands, if not millions of young adults for decades afterwards? No. I think not.

Full Disclosure: I have both of La Gaga's albums.
